Warhol Factory Women and Other 1960's Divas and Their Unforgettable Style

Hippies vehemently protested the war in Viet Nam and, under the auspices of their motto "Make Love Not War",  they took love to new extremes.  Just as the gun had become the symbol for hatred and fighting, the flower became the symbol for love and peace. The flower was the anti-gun and "flower power" flourished. The clothing style that emerged was the spontaneous result of what these young people represented.  They wore whatever the wanted and did their own thing. The fantasy drug culture, which they embraced, brought forth the afghan, the kaftan, beads, body paint and flowers (often worn in the hair).  Hippie fashion embraced both genders, including musicians, as the music of the 1960's conveyed the beliefs of the culture who listened to it.
