Everyone who wore them looked
like a movie star. Or
a giant bug. Jackie Kennedy, who bought her first pair of huge
sunglasses on the Riviera in a small French boutique, is credited for
starting
the trend in America. Once American women saw Jackie wearing them, that
was
all the proof they needed that huge sunglasses were cool. The 1960's
marked
the beginning of faux (fake) and synthetic textile production.
Women
could dress like Jackie Kennedy and other famous "fashion icons" and
still
remain within their budgets, thanks to vinyl, plastic, polyester, fake fur
and leather -- but of equal importance to the fashion-conscious
woman
was the beginning of the "knock-off" or "designer-copy" industry.
